I went to the Emu Gully Air and land spectacular over the weekend. Its an annual air show and military reenactment show that is held at emu gully each year. was a great day and I got some really good photos. here are some of the better ones. I took over 800 photos over the day and I am slowly going through them.

These have only been resized and cropped. there have been no other editing...

New drawing finished

I had a bit of time on the train the other day so I finished a drawing that I started late 2011.

I really love the way it turned out.

And with a bit of dodgy photoshop... Its a flying heart. :)

The empire collection planning has begun

I started the first stages of planning for the Empire collection. The first order turned up last week so I was able to start thinking about army composition. The steps are going to be pretty long and involved. so its probably best to look at the other blog more than this one. I dont know how often I will be updating this blog now. I might go for the odd update on here but there will be at a minimum weekly posts of the theempirestf.blogspot.com blog.

Just in case

Howdy,

Just in case there are people out there waiting for the photos that I promised the other day. :) I am going to finish the first miniature with the layering techniques over the weekend and then ill post up a comparison of three different miniatures. One that I painted 2 years ago when i started painting again, one that I finished this time last year and then the new one. I have noticed a massive change in my painting over the last 2 years and Im pretty keen to see the differences.

Ill post them up on monday.

I also have a new project for this year, lets call it a type of new years resolution, but ill post up a blog post when I get it all finalised and I start the project. will be mid february when I start.

Experimentation time

Hi all,

I hope you had a great christmas and holiday period. I did. :)

I did a little painting while staying with a mate. Worked on my Ogre Kingdoms Ogres. Got a little bit done.

Last night I couldnt sleep so I sat down and decided to do a little bit of experimentation. I have been painting the same way since I started way back in 1994. Basecoat, wash and then drybrush. So last night I decided to have a go at layering. With the release of the new citadel paint range it makes it much easier to use this technique as there is a much wider range of colours so there is no need to mix colours.

I started out separating 20 savage orc sprues into different groups (bodies, arms, heads and weapons) and painting the arms first. I base coated the first 15 or so arms with goblin green and then washed them with a green wash. Then picked a slightly darker than goblin green shade of green and layered onto the raised areas of the muscle. Then with goblin green layered on a slightly smaller area of the muscle. I might put another wash over it as well just to blend in the edges. Although i also painted on some tattoos onto the arms as the savage orcs are generally covered in tattoos. lol

Ill take some pictures tonight when i get some more done and post them tomorrow.

Have fun. :)

Did some painting over the weekend

I got a bit of painting done over the weekend. Made a start on another of the Ogres. The musician. Havent got it to a stage where its worth taking photos yet but I will get some up once I get a bit more work done.

Cricket got rained out over the weekend so I didnt play and unfortunately the Aus v SA test was rained out as well so I couldnt even watch it. At least it gave me an excuse to do some painting.

Weekend adventures

I had the work christmas party over the weekend so didnt do any painting, however yesterday I rearranged my lounge/dining room so that I can sit in front of the TV while painting. That way I dont get distracted by TV and have to stop painting to watch. lol Now I can enjoy 2 hobbies at once.

Did some more work on the Savage Orc Boar Boy last week. Have nearly finished him so once I do ill post some shots.

New WIP

This is the savage orc boar boy that ive been working on over the last few weeks.

Im really happy with the way its turning out. :)

Painting this week

I played cricket on the weekend and I was surprised that after batting for 20 overs, doing a considerable amount of running and then fielding for a couple of hours, I was not sore on Sunday.

Ill be doing some painting this week while i am on night shift so I hope to upload some pics early next week. I know ive said that numerous times over the past few weeks. But this time it might just come true. :)

Stay tuned.

Trying to get out of the house more...

In an effort to lose about 30Kg... Ive started playing cricket with a local club in Toowoomba. Gets me out of the house 2 nights during the week and then the game on saturday afternoon. Given the fact that my fitness isnt what it used to be, it takes me a lot longer to get over the exercise than it should lol.

So my painting time has been cut into by my recovery time.

So there may not be any posts on here for a while. at least until I get myself back to a point where it doesnt take me 3 days to get over the game.

Be patient... Ill get some pics up as soon as I can.

New plan for painting

I had a party at my place a couple of weeks ago, and as a result I decided to pack away all of my painting and miniatures stuff so that none of it got broken.

So last weekend, when I was deciding what to start painting, I came up with a plan to prioritise what im going to paint. I will be leaving everything packed up and just pulling out one miniature at a time. That way I dont get distracted by all the other projects I have on the go. This may not work for some things, mainly when painting a squad of minis, That way I can maintain the paint scheme and such while working across multiple minis.

Its working well so far. Have been working on a Savage Orc Boar Boy this last week. Its coming along nicely. Ill take some photos this weekend and post them on here.

Finally has the net at home!

Well, Ive finally managed to get the internet hooked up at home. although its only wireless broadband, so its a bit patchy. But nonetheless... This is my first post from my home computer in a long time. :)

Thought I would post some pics that I took on my last trip down to Sydney. Taken from the balcony of my hotel room in Cronulla. I like them. although im sure that they could be a lot better. :) Im slowly filtering through all of the photos that I have and seeing if there is anything else worth posting. so stay tuned

Neglecting the painting...

Ive been neglecting the hobbyist part of my life in the last couple of weeks. I had a party at my place on the weekend and actually packed away all my paints and stuff to avoid anything getting damaged.

I have done a little painting in the last couple of weeks but not as much as I would have liked. This weekend is a long weekend and I will be locking myself in the house and painting... Nothing but painting... So ill have some photos to post next week. Just have to decide what Im going to paint. :)

A very wide ranging audience

I thought I would share something that I am really shocked by. I was having a look at the page stats for this blog the other day and I was shocked to see the varied range of countries that are represented in my page views.

This is just the top 10 countries. More recently there are a couple of views from Ukraine, Belgium and Austria...

A lot of the views have come from google searches for the Games Workshop minis that i paint and post and more recently a lot of searches for drawings. Im chuffed that the quality of my work has bought people in from across the world to have a look.

So thank you to all and I hope to continue painting and posting my works.
