Emu Gully Air and land Spectacular

I went to the Emu Gully Air and land spectacular over the weekend. Its an annual air show and military reenactment show that is held at emu gully each year. was a great day and I got some really good photos. here are some of the better ones. I took over 800 photos over the day and I am slowly going through them.

These have only been resized and cropped. there have been no other editing...

New drawing finished

I had a bit of time on the train the other day so I finished a drawing that I started late 2011.

I really love the way it turned out.

And with a bit of dodgy photoshop... Its a flying heart. :)

The empire collection planning has begun

I started the first stages of planning for the Empire collection. The first order turned up last week so I was able to start thinking about army composition. The steps are going to be pretty long and involved. so its probably best to look at the other blog more than this one. I dont know how often I will be updating this blog now. I might go for the odd update on here but there will be at a minimum weekly posts of the theempirestf.blogspot.com blog.

Just in case

Howdy,

Just in case there are people out there waiting for the photos that I promised the other day. :) I am going to finish the first miniature with the layering techniques over the weekend and then ill post up a comparison of three different miniatures. One that I painted 2 years ago when i started painting again, one that I finished this time last year and then the new one. I have noticed a massive change in my painting over the last 2 years and Im pretty keen to see the differences.

Ill post them up on monday.

I also have a new project for this year, lets call it a type of new years resolution, but ill post up a blog post when I get it all finalised and I start the project. will be mid february when I start.

Experimentation time

Hi all,

I hope you had a great christmas and holiday period. I did. :)

I did a little painting while staying with a mate. Worked on my Ogre Kingdoms Ogres. Got a little bit done.

Last night I couldnt sleep so I sat down and decided to do a little bit of experimentation. I have been painting the same way since I started way back in 1994. Basecoat, wash and then drybrush. So last night I decided to have a go at layering. With the release of the new citadel paint range it makes it much easier to use this technique as there is a much wider range of colours so there is no need to mix colours.

I started out separating 20 savage orc sprues into different groups (bodies, arms, heads and weapons) and painting the arms first. I base coated the first 15 or so arms with goblin green and then washed them with a green wash. Then picked a slightly darker than goblin green shade of green and layered onto the raised areas of the muscle. Then with goblin green layered on a slightly smaller area of the muscle. I might put another wash over it as well just to blend in the edges. Although i also painted on some tattoos onto the arms as the savage orcs are generally covered in tattoos. lol

Ill take some pictures tonight when i get some more done and post them tomorrow.

Have fun. :)
